The Warlords (DVD) (2-Disc Special Edition) (Hong Kong Version)The Postmodern Life Of My Aunt (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)Protege (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)Flash Point (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)
  • From Comrades, Almost a Love Story to Perhaps Love, Peter Chan seems to have perfected the formula for commercial filmmaking. Chan is the rare director who connects with both mainstream audiences and arthouse critics, so it's no surprise that his first stab at the big-budget war epic, The Warlords, has become one of Hong Kong's biggest blockbusters of 2007. Superstars Jet Li, Andy Lau, and Takeshi Kaneshiro star in this grand and gritty tale of war, romance, and brotherhood in 19th-century China. Based on Chang Cheh's Blood Brothers, the film features action choreography from Ching Siu Tung (Hero) and impressive, large-scale battle scenes befitting of the big screen.

  • Director Ann Hui brings her sharp humanist touch to The Postmodern Life of My Aunt, a satirical comedy-drama about one woman coping with life in rapidly changing Shanghai. Siqin Gaowa (The Day the Sun Turned Cold) stars as Ye Rutang, the eponymous aunt of the title, who lives in Shanghai alone, but happily. Her fortunes change, however, as she soon falls victim to scam after scam, perpetrated by a series of surprising con men, including her own nephew (Guan Wenshou) and a would-be opera singer (Chow Yun Fat) who attacks her weakest point: her heart. With so many people valuing her money over her as a person, how can this strong woman maintain her stalwart, but increasingly outdated dignity?

  • Best Supporting Actor

    Protege (DVD) (Hong Kong Version)
Directed by Derek Yee (One Nite in Mongkok) and produced by Peter Chan (Perhaps Love), Protege delves into Hong Kong's mysterious drug world. The film scrutinizes all facets of a huge drug empire, and at the same time engages viewers with its effective storytelling and multiple perspectives. While giving meticulous details about the heroin trade to bring out an anti-drug message, Derek Yee also does not lose sight of narrative and characterization, dealing with a serious topic in an interesting and compelling manner. Protege stars three of Hong Kong's most popular actors - Andy Lau as a drug dealer, Louis Koo as a drug addict, and Daniel Wu as an undercover cop.

  • The Donnie Yen-Wilson Yip tag team return with the blistering actioner Flash Point. Inspector Ma's partner Wilson (Louis Koo) poses as a member of the gang to keep tabs on the trio, leading to the arrest of Archer (Ray Lui). However, Archer's cohorts Tony (Collin Chou of The Matrix Reloaded) and Tiger (Xing Yu of Kung Fu Hustle) are still at large. When they kidnap Wilson's girlfriend (Fan Bing Bing) to blackmail him, only Inspector Ma is willing to come to his partner's aid - and whoever stands in his way had better watch out!
