YesAsia Editorial Description
It may purely be coincidence, but TVB heartthrob Bosco Wong and his frequent co-star (and sometimes rumored girlfriend) actress Myolie Wu are both flexing their vocal cords outside their high-flying television careers, and are releasing their debut albums just a week apart.
Bosco is on a strong run this year with successive hit dramas Wars of In-Laws II, The Seventh Day, Moonlight Resonance, and The Gem of Life. He also recently received his first movie starring role in The Luckiest Man.
Bosco is no stranger to singing, having sung a few TV drama and cartoon theme songs since 2005. One such song, "Which Day" (ending theme of the 2006 series Dicey Business), can be found on Track 6 of the album, which also features his first plug, the ballad "Love You Everyway" (Track 1) and the fast-tempo second plug Hey Boy (Track 2).

Could his singing be even worse?
Could his singing be even worse?
| I really do not understand the policy of how TVB "force" artistes to release albums. Why bother to make someone who can't sing at all, like Bosco, to sing? Frankly speaking, it's not even acceptable to listen to the CD version. His live performance just gives me a nightmare, even worse than what I heard from karaoke rooms. You can tell that the released CD version had gone through so much post-recording editing to fix his flaws. I strongly suggest him to focus on his acting career instead . |

I think this album is good. His voice is different and has potential to be a good singer. Maybe not much of singing techniques right now, but I think he handles the songs well. I watch JSG and he can dance well too. No The songs are likeable. I like track 1,3 & 5. The MVs in this 2nd edition are really good too. |

The singing stinks!

I cannot understand why TVB are continually pushing their actors to be singers. I think they really need to consider whether they can sing. There are one or two who I find would have potential as singers but Bosco simply cannot sing and does not have the voice. I have heard his previous TVB theme tunes and have to say that they are mediocre. I was shocked when I heard that he was to release an album. He has no singing techniques at all and it really sounds like he is talking his way through his songs rather than singing them. Worse of all, he resembles a low standard karaoke singer even as a fan I would feel embarrassed listening to this. The tunes are not bad and the record company has given Bosco the least challenging of songs to sing to avoid him displaying his flaws (which are more apparent in his TVB theme tunes due to him raising his voice) But even so, it doesn't help much because he ends up reading the lyrics. Particularly the slow songs where his lack of emotions and techniques are extremely obvious. There is no surprise that his album will sell due to the accumulation of TVB fans who are predominantly fans of his acting. It is also obvious that music is not the selling point of this album. However, he will need to improve dramatically in all departments of his singing if he wants people to take him seriously as a singer. I personally think he should stick to what he does best - acting. |
