The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor (DVD) (2-Disc Special Edition) (Hong Kong Version) DVD Region 3
Brendan Fraser (Actor) |
Michelle Yeoh (Actor) |
Jet Li (Actor) |
Isabella Leong (Actor)
Absent from theaters since 2001, the Mummy franchise makes a spectacular return with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Brendan Fraser returns as adventurer Rick O' Connell, and brings along with him an international cast, starting with Jet Li, who plays the villainous Emperor Han a.k.a. The Dragon Emperor. Michelle Yeoh joins her Tai-Chi Master co-star Li as Zi Juan, an ancient sorceress and lifelong nemesis of Emperor Han, while Isabella Leong gets a key role as a mysterious ally of Rick O'Connell's family. Rounding out the international cast are Hong Kong Cinema mainstay Anthony Wong as a modern-day supporter of Emperor Han, and Wu Jing in a cameo as an assassin. Filled with action, humor, and some truly spectacular CGI effects (at one point, Jet Li morphs into a three-headed dragon), Tomb of the Dragon Emperor grossed nearly US$400 million at the international box office, and is one of 2008's biggest hits. After vanquishing Egyptian mummy Imhotep twice, Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) has settled into a restless retired life with wife Evelyn (Maria Bello, replacing Rachel Weisz from the first two Mummy films). However, adventure beckons once more when the two are asked to deliver a precious jewel to Shanghai, where both Evelyn's brother Jonathan (John Hannah) and their son Alex (Luke Ford) are currently working. But nefarious forces led by General Yang (Anthony Wong) are after the jewel, which turns out to be the key to restoring the powerful Emperor Han (Jet Li), known in history as the despotic, immortality-seeking Dragon Emperor. At the height of his power, the treacherous Han was trapped and preserved in terracotta by sorceress Zi Juan (Michelle Yeoh), who saw her beloved, General Ming Guo (Russell Wong), betrayed and murdered by Han. If Han is restored to life, he'll bring with him his mystical command of the elements, his unquenchable thirst for power, and his massive army of resurrected Terracotta Soldiers. With the help of the beautiful and mysterious Lin (Isabella Leong), the O'Connell clan must again vanquish a mummy in order to save mankind.

The Dark Knight (2-Disc Special Edition) (US Version) DVD Region 1
Christian Bale (Actor) |
Gary Oldman (Actor) |
Morgan Freeman (Actor) |
Aaron Eckhart (Actor)
To say that Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT is the best comic book adaptation does the film a bit of a disservice. It may be a Batman film, but this isn't a kid-friendly action movie full of the bams and pows of the original series. This is a pitch-black thriller with enough drama and tragedy to please even William Shakespeare, but it will certainly keep both comics fans and uninitiated audiences equally happy. THE DARK KNIGHT starts in the wake of BATMAN BEGINS: with the appearance of Batman (Christian Bale), Gotham City's criminal underworld is unnerved. They're also plagued by the new D.A., Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), who, in his quest for justice, remains above the city's corruption. Enter a new villain, the Joker (Heath Ledger), who wants to unite the criminals for a common purpose: to kill Batman. THE DARK KNIGHT is one of the most hyped movies to date, and a lesser film would be crushed under the weight of all that expectation. Some of the publicity stems from the early death of Ledger, who turns in an excellent performance. He provides moments of humor, but this Joker is terrifying, sharing more with classic villains such as Hannibal Lechter than with his comic book predecessors. Eckhart is equally good as Dent, and Maggie Gyllenhaal deserves praise for taking over the role of Rachel Dawes from Katie Holmes. Though there's more emphasis on plot and character development than in most comic book adaptations, that doesn't mean Nolan has skimped on any of the action sequences. Each set piece is done perfectly, leaving the audience breathless. THE DARK KNIGHT is filmmaking at its best; its subject matter may be dark and depressing, but it's tough not to feel exhilarated by its artistry when the credits begin to roll. 4 stars out of 4 -- "THE DARK KNIGHT is a more thrilling, intelligent, morally complex and masterfully crafted film than any summer blockbuster in recent years. It's probably the best superhero movie to date." - Claudia, Puig (USA TODAY CRITIC), USA Today, 07/18/2008 "Always a consummate professional, Ledger threw himself into a role he clearly relished, giving a transfixing performance..." - Kenneth, Turan (Los Angeles Times Critic), Los Angeles Times, 07/17/2008 "Pitched at the divide between art and industry, poetry and entertainment, it goes darker and deeper than any Hollywood movie of its comic-book kind..." - Manohla, Dargis (Film Critic), New York Times, 07/18/2008 "[T]he movie exudes a predatory glamour that makes the comic-book films that have come before it look all the more like kid stuff." -- Grade: A- - Owen, Gleiberman (Entertainment Weekly Critic), Entertainment Weekly, 07/25/2008 5 stars out of 5 -- "[A]n anarchic, malevolent fury of a movie....Ledger's Joker is pure, powerful, immense..." - Empire Staff (Empire Critic), Empire, 09/01/2008 "[A] sleek detective story....Bale and Eckhart centralize the movie's thematic concerns, causing the Joker's outrageousness to stand out." - Eric, Kohn (Premiere Critic), Premiere, 07/18/2008 "This last development is a fine example of Nolan's flair for multivalent plot points....Nolan is aided by strong performances. Bale is focused, intense and committed to being terrifying..." - Kim, Newman (Film Critic), Sight and Sound, 10/01/2008 "Working from Michael Mann's visual template and seemingly indebted to the hard-nosed savagery of THE DEPARTED, Christopher Nolan's second BATMAN installment has some thrilling moments..." - Kent, Jones (Film Comment Critic), Film Comment, 11/01/2008 -
Iron Man (DVD) (Mark III Mask Edition) (Limited Edition) (Korea Version) DVD Region 3
Gwyneth Paltrow |
Jeff Bridges |
Shaun Toub |
Jon Favreau
Based on the long-running Marvel comic book, Iron Man went on to earn over $300 million at the North American box office, becoming the first blockbuster of 2008. Not bad for a character considered a "second stringer" among Marvel's lineup of heroes. Director Jon Favreau struck gold when he cast the troubled but talented Robert Downey, Jr. in the lead role as Tony Stark, Iron Man's playboy alter ego. Known for his history of personal difficulties, Downey brings a depth and talent usually not seen in actors headlining similar summer fare, and won universal acclaim for his performance. Surrounding Downey is an A-list cast of talent, including Terrence Howard (Hustle and Flow), Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love), and Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski). A visual effects-packed action film with remarkable characters, Iron Man is a rare summer spectacle popular with both audiences and critics. Industrialist, inventor and notorious playboy Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) has it all: fame, fortune and women. His Stark Industries supplies the United States government with technologically-advanced instruments of war, and Stark is perfectly fine with it - until he's kidnapped by a rogue terrorist faction, and asked to assemble a deadly missile from illegally purchased Stark Industries weaponry. Faced with the human cost of his inventions, Stark vows to use his intellect for good. Instead of building a missile, he constructs an armored suit that allows him to escape from his captors, and goes about building new armors with even more advanced weapons and capabilities. Instilled with a new, righteous purpose, Stark brings the fight back to the terrorists, piloting the gold-and-red Iron Man Mark III Armor into battle against the tyrants misusing his inventions for personal gain.
The Mark III Mask Edition comes with two DVDs packaged in a replica of Iron Man's red-and-gold Mark III helmet.
